The Story:
The house was cold and draughty, heated by oil and an open fire. For Chris, the combination of poor thermal comfort and high heating costs made it the right time to consider a full home energy upgrade. He turned to Electric Ireland Superhomes, an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop, for a fully managed, whole-house retrofit solution.
The Measures:
Following a detailed home survey carried out by an Electric Ireland Superhomes engineer, the following retrofit measures were identified to bring Chris’s home up to an A1 BER rating:
- External Wall Insulation
- Floor Insulation
- Attic Insulation
- Windows and Doors
- Solar PV
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Airtightness
- Heat Pump
The Process:
Chris Quirke highlights the value of working with a One Stop Shop: “They did all the interfaces with the various people, like the SEAI, for the grants and all the testing with the BER.”
Electric Ireland Superhomes managed all key stages of the home energy retrofit, from initial design through to project completion and management of SEAI grant funding, giving Chris piece of mind and quality assurance throughout.
The Results:
This terraced home has been transformed from a cold, draughty house with a BER of E2 to a modern, energy-efficient A1-rated Superhome.
Chris’s home is an example of how even an older, harder-to-heat property can become a warmer, more comfortable, and healthier home, with lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.
