Cillian & Rachel

When Cillian and Rachel purchased their 1972 property, they knew it would require attention. The old windows meant constant draughts, air leaked in from multiple points, and the house simply couldn’t hold heat. They turned to Electric Ireland Superhomes, an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop, for a fully managed, whole-house retrofit solution.

The Story

When Cillian and Rachel purchased their 1972 property, they knew it would require attention. The old windows meant constant draughts, air leaked in from multiple points, and the house simply couldn’t hold heat. Even after hours of heating, the warmth faded quickly, leaving rooms cold and uncomfortable. They turned to Electric Ireland Superhomes, an SEAI-registered One Stop Shop,  for a fully managed, whole-house retrofit solution.

The Measures

  • External Doors and Windows
  • Heat Pump
  • Roof Insulation
  • External Wall Insulation
  • Airtightness
  • Demand Control Ventilation
  • New radiators
  • New heating pipework

The Process

What stood out most during the process was how clear and easy everything felt from the start. As Cillian put it, “For us, it was definitely the ease and speed of communication. We were talked through the initial steps, what would be required on our side, what the costs would look like, and the bits of work included in the retrofit. Everything was explained so clearly, and we were connected with skilled contractors who knew exactly what they were doing.”

Having that level of guidance from Electric Ireland Superhomes gave Cillian and Rachel confidence and removed any uncertainty.

With Electric Ireland Superhomes managing the paperwork, planning, timelines, and contractor coordination, the project moved quickly and smoothly, Cillian and Rachel always knew what stage the work was at, what was coming next, and how all the pieces fit together, making a big upgrade feel surprisingly manageable.

The Results

The property improved dramatically, moving from an E1 to an A2 BER rating, representing a complete turnaround in energy performance. Rooms that were once cold and draughty now maintain heat evenly throughout the day, creating a far more comfortable living environment. The full heat-pump-led whole-house retrofit cost €79,820 and after receiving €24,052 in SEAI grants, the final cost came to €55,768. Electric Ireland Superhomes handled the grant paperwork and application process, ensuring the homeowners secured the maximum funding available.

Achieving an A2 BER rating also qualifies the property for a green mortgage, providing access to better interest rates and long-term savings. The upgrade has improved not only overall comfort but also the home’s environmental performance, with much lower carbon emissions and greater energy efficiency. What was once a cold, heat-leaking 1972 house is now a warm, economical, and future-proofed home.
